$11M vs $700k

ok, I know it's not apples and oranges - sale of a property vs renovating a property, but it's kind of a showcase of priorities. The numbers in question:

$11 Million to renovate Sacred Heart Cathedral

According to this post by Dr. K giving a timeline of Bishop Clark's reign. Dr. K confirms this number here.

vs

$700 Thousand - the price tag of Ss Peter and Paul
Jim (in the choir loft) arranged a tour of this magnificent church yesterday. The thing that stuck out most to me was all of the beautiful paintings. Here's a write up by Rich Leonardi on Ss Peter and Paul. After I got there I realized I should have taken my camera - so sorry no pictures here, but Cleansing Fire might get some.

  1. Thanks for coming, Ben. Joe took pictures and once he's done putting them on a disc I'll have some pictures to upload. I don't know how they turned out yet. At least the Coptic are taking good care of it and they want to put back the altar rail, which is always a good sign. And thanks to Craig for giving the insights and tour.
See you at the Communion rail!

  3. Here's a source for that number (it's mentioned in the article title). I think it might be higher, but $11 million is shockingly high enough.

  4. Jim,
Thanks again for setting up the tour. It was truly inspiring to see. As someone relatively new the Church, seeing church buildings like this is one of my favorite things. Whenever I travel somewhere, I try to visit a cathedral if I can (so far I've seen Baltimore and Cincinnati). These buildings are truly one are great treasure.

    Dr. K,
Thanks for the reference - I added it the my original post.

  5. I have to agree with you on the high price tag Ben. The money should have been used to keep small parish communities and Catholic schools from closing.

  6. Ben .. We gotta go to Buffalo to see some magnificent, splendid Catholic Churches. Rochester has some but Buffalo has 10 times as many. In its heyday Rochester was at best 30 percent Catholic; Buffalo over 85 percent.

This is a vid about Corpus Christi (Body of Christ) Church in Buffalo.
