Help Wanted

Having some months of blogging under my belt, I thought it time for some reflection. I want this website to be more than just an ongoing blog. I want it to be a resource where someone, anyone, can be presented with simple truths about Christianity and more specifically the Catholic Church. The blog draws one into a conversation while the links in the upper right offer more than just my ongoing babble. I really don't have anything original to say, so I usually prefer to simply point elsewhere.

I heard a statistic once that in a good relationship the positive/negative experience ratio should be about 10:1. While this diocese often leaves us scratching our heads and asking "why?" I think we must put our best foot forward and do what we can to march onward for Christ. While most of us are doing that, it isn't always obvious from our blog posts. So, I will continue to call out wrongs and errors in this diocese, but will attempt to do so in proportion to the good I am offering. I'm not promising a 10:1 ratio in this regard, but will be mindful to not simply admonish all the time.

Ideas for Initiatives
  • Podcasts
    • This is such an easy thing to do and such a nice resource to have when doing dishes or the daily commute. I don't have time to take the lead on coordinating resources and whatnot, but I can be technical guru for it. There are so many great podcasts out there already, but there's something special about doing stuff locally. So I think we could offer great value to people in Rochester even if we're not as well produced. Some of my ideas - homilies by some of our favorite priests, interviews, debates, whatever. If anyone out there wants to offer themselves as a resource and coordinate some of this, I'd be happy to offer what skills I have.
  • Guest bloggers
    • I'm open to just about any articles related to Catholicism.  Don't think you have much to offer? Think again - tell a funny story, share an experience, anything that's somewhat related to Catholicism and doesn't go outside the bounds of Church teaching is fair game in my book. Can't figure out blogging? No problem - just shoot me an email.

  1. Ben, have you seen the St. Irenaeus Ministries podcasts? (http://www.siministries.org/Podcast) It might fit in with some of what you're looking for as far as Rochester is concerned.

P.S. I haven't got a lot of time for it, in fact, I don't really have time to be reading blogs to begin with, but I'm definitely interested in this "next gen" blog thing. I'll try to remember to post a few questions soon.

  2. Thanks for sharing, Evan. Yes, I've listened to some of St. Irenaeus Ministries stuff. What I've heard has been pretty good. I need to check it out further.
